Our Owner & CEO
About our owner and CEO …
He first went into business for himself as a musician for hire, playing piano at restaurants, weddings, and events. Later, he expanded this entertainment offering to include variety performances and added a tutoring component for students from first grade through college level. The tutoring service focused on English, Algebra, Chemistry, History, and Reading skills.
As time went on, Gery expanded his offerings yet again adding design services. His talents were sought after by parade float designers, non-profits, and mechanical services companies where he was able to apply the practical and academic sides of his engineering training he got both from college and growing up as a student of his father and brother’s farming and trucking businesses. But he wasn’t done yet.
In October of 1987, Gery sold his first freelance writing to a local publication and has since maintained his work a professional independent journalist and content creator. His educational background in mechanical engineering and computer science provided the opportunity to write detailed technical reports and operational manuals for product testers, research engineers, and software developers. He also produced product release documents and software manuals written for both technical service providers and end users. His work has been used by companies like Nationwide Financial Services, Cox Media Group, Aim Media Midwest, Standard Register (now Taylor Communications), IBM, Whirlpool Corporation and many more.
As a freelance journalist and feature writer, Gery has been published in more than a dozen regional and national publications over the last 20 years, ranging from local newspapers to specialty magazines and was nominated in 2010 for a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism. His weekly op-ed column titled Deer In Headlines is self-syndicated and featured in print and online publications around the country including his own news and commentary site, “The Jamestown Comet.com.” Gery is also a business contributor and freelance segment producer for the WDTN-TV2 daytime program, Living Dayton.
To support fellow writers, in 2008 Gery founded the Western Ohio Writers Association, a regional organization dedicated to supporting area writers. The group provides networking, education and critique sessions for writers of all genres.
Gery’s other charitable work is focused on serving as the Chairperson for the Communications and Development Committee as well as the Executive Advisory Committee of Prevent Blindness, Miami Valley Chapter. He was also recently nominated to join the chapter’s Leadership Council. Gery was recently elected to the State Board of Directors of the Prevent Blindness organization’s Ohio Affiliate.
