Owner, creative director, Gery L. Deer has a mixed bag of expertise going back to his days on the family farm in Jamestown, Ohio where he learned to run a business.
He was first published in October of 1987 and has since been continually involved with freelance journalism and professional business writing. His educational background is in mechanical engineering and computer science and he spent much of the 1990’s writing detailed technical reports and operational manuals for product testers, research engineers, and software developers. He also produced product release documents and software manuals written for both technical service providers and end users. His work has been used by companies like Nationwide Financial Services, Standard Register, IBM and Whirlpool Corporation.
As a freelance journalist and feature writer, Gery has been published in more than a dozen regional and national publications ranging from local newspapers to specialty magazines. His weekly op-ed column titled Deer In Headlines is self-syndicated and featured in print and online publications around the country. He has also served as an associate board member of The Foodbank and is often asked to produce feature stories for the organization’s newsletter, Feedwire.

Gery is a regular keynote speaker at business organization meetings, civic groups, colleges and literary conventions. In 2010 he was nominated for the Ohio Public Image Awards for Media and was under consideration for a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism.In addition, Gery has published several eBooks of the creative and business communications genres.
As a leading expert in the areas of business development, marketing and publicity, Gery is regular expert contributor on area television, most notably the WDTN-TV2 television program, “Living Dayton.”
To support fellow writers, in 2008 Gery founded the Western Ohio Writers Association, a regional organization dedicated to supporting area writers. The group provides networking, education and critique sessions for writers of all genres.
